Sisters Bobae and Shawna with their seed money

On November 3rd, participating Elysia members were given $20 seed money to create a profit by the end of November. This little project was inspired by the parable of the ten talents (Matthew 25:14-30), where servants were put in charge of talents of wealth by their master. The goal was to be like the good and faithful servant and fully put to use the $20 we were given, bringing back as much more as we can!

I was very excited to see the results of this little project because our members were thinking up of so many fun and creative ways to use the $20. Some of the early ideas included selling hand-knit scarves, being paid to be a personal stylist, and a cake sale. It was also a blessing to see our members suggesting ideas to one another. I heard conversations that went along the lines of, “Hey, maybe you should do this because you’re so good at it!” “Oh really? You think so?” It was like we were reminding each other of the gifts and abilities that God had given us and giving each other confidence in these abilities.

Not all of the inventive ideas came to fruition but here are some of the fabulous ones that did.

Tutoring

Giving massages at a nursing home

Selling kimbap (Korean sushi)

Busking at H-mart

Giving manicures

Selling candy canes

Bake sale

Cutting hair

And here are a few that I was able to take some pictures of

Altogether, we made a profit of approximately $960. Praise the Lord!

I wish I could share all the details of each plan because the stories behind them are really cool, but doing so will probably produce a short book. So I must refrain.

I did, however, ask our sister Josephine to write about her $20 challenge experience. Thank you again Jose :) You can read her blog here.

Thanks for reading! Have a blessed day!
